At the beginning of the month Mindsystems ran the inaugural Fluent Reading Certification Training. We were fortunate to run this training with a select group of highly experienced trainers who provided enthusiastic input to the course as well as creating a dynamic learning atmosphere.

The session ran over two days during which there was lively debate, clarification and work done on the programme to refine the course. We feel privileged to be working with such a talented group of trainers’ in the launch of this sensational course.

So what is Fluent Reading all about?

Simple, it is about improving the way people read and absorb information.

You may say ‘But I can read OK Thank You very much!’ Certainly, but the question is ‘Could you do it more effectively?’

In school we were taught to read by sounding out words and indeed the way a word sounds is an important part of the learning process.

The problem is that this habit stays with most of us so while we do not actually read everything out loud we do the equivalent in our minds. This has the result that our reading speed is normally limited to between 150 and 220 words per minute.

This problem is called ‘Sub-vocalisation’. Reduce ‘sub-vocalisation’ and reading speed doubles at the very least, with the added bonus that comprehension increases as well. In other words:
